Bad roads in Pune

This is my bit of work which I could do for the betterment of Pune. The following is my letter appealing to India TV for help to improve road conditions in Pune. If anyone is interested in taking up this cause with them, you can write too at mail@indiatvnews.com

Hello,
I am a resident of Pune and I appeal to India TV to please highlight the woes of the residents of Pune people. Pune is suffering due to its bad roads. I guess this statement can give you the true state of Pune roads.

In the whole of India we drive on the left of the road,
BUT IN PUNE WE DRIVE ON "WHAT" IS LEFT ON THE ROAD !!!!

The residents are doing what they can with the authorities. We had an online petition campaign last year, morchas against our municipal commisioner, Mr. Kareer. We have active volunteers following up with authorities but all is in vain. You will find enough material for research in the local newspapers for the past two-three years.

Last year people from Mauritious were called to give a solution on the road conditions. No result. I refuse to believe that it is only the rains which damage the roads.

Few questions which remain unanswered are:
1. Why is the condition so bad. Why dont the roads even stay good for 4 months.
2. Why are the roads re-surfaced again and again when everyone knows that the base of the road itself has been damaged.
3. Is repair = resurfacing?
4. Why is there no monitoring from the authorities.
5. How do the road contractors get a repeat order inspite of such shoddy work.
6. Why dont builders (like the one who made J.M. Road in Pune 20-30 years back), who can really make good roads which last for 10 years, get orders to make them again.
7. Where do the lakhs of rupees supposedly spent on repairs go.

and the last question

WHY SHOULD WE PAY TAXES TO THE GOVT?
The govt does not provide us with
1. basic facilitites like roads, transportation, town planning
2. security against terrorism (do we need the army or other defence forces)
3. equal opportunities of education (reservation)
4. power crisis

I hope India TV can highlight this issue but I would be really happy if India TV does more than that - help solve the issue. Pune is an industrial hub, a defence hub, a place for education and a place booming with software opportunties. All these will go down the drain due to lack of infrastructure. A once 'pensioners paradise' surrounded by serene hills, is now bustling with city life growing at such speed that the city is overflowing and the administration is just not able to catch up with anything. Small roads, heterogenous traffic and most important of all, no planning.

Can we stop paying taxes to open the eyes of the government. We dont deserve this treatment from the govt. This is the correct time for your team to visit Pune and see the reality.
